Tomorrow is the big culmination of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam for Shepherdstown. The Antietam Remembrance Walk from Sharpsburg to Shepherdstown via the Rumsey Memorial Bridge will be held starting at 5:30, ending with a closing ceremony at Town Hall on King Street. Buildings all around town are bedecked with pieces of yellow sheets, as they were after the Battle in 1862, showing wounded soldiers from both sides where they could receive aid and comfort.
Although the re-enactments will be over for another year after this weekend, you can always savor the history around Shepherdstown, including Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry, at any time of the year. Please see our website for assistance.
