Innkeeper Sharing

A fellow innkeeper (now retired) told me that when he stayed at other B&Bs on his travels, he always took one thing away from that B&B to use in his own place. Not physically took away, mind you – one idea that he could implement at his place. This is what he took from our Inn – a dish of Jolly Ranchers in the front hallway.
It seems silly, but it’s just a little welcome to the Inn or a treat upon your departure. I have a pretty amethyst Fenton bowl (made in West Virginia) filled with the hard candies. I chose Jolly Ranchers because my father always kept a bowl of them in his office. I blame him for my inherited sweet tooth. Take one for the road the next time you visit the Inn! Or put a dish of your favorite treat in the entrance to welcome guests.
