Shepherd U’s Appalachian Heritage Festival is this week – author/musician/activist Silas House is here in Shepherdstown. Silas was born and lives in Eastern Kentucky, has won several awards for his books, and is about to release a new book ‘Eli the Good’. He is also well-known as an environmental activist and has campaigned against the destruction of the Appalachian mountains by mountaintop removal mining.
Classes, discussions, and a concert are scheduled through Friday night – see the Shepherd website for the full schedule. George Brosi, an editor of Appalachian Heritage magazine, will join Silas for a Friday night discussion on Appalachian writers at the Byrd Center.
