On Saturday, May 2, the annual May Day Festival will have people blooming all around town. There is music and dancing, not to mention the colorful May Day parade followed by the wrapping of West Virginia’s largest May Pole.
Festivities start at 10 a.m. with our own Morris Dancers and storytelling at the Four Seasons Bookstore. The Search for the Golden Arrow, spring’s first ray of sunshine, will begin with the first clue at the Lost Dog Coffee Shop and live music will play from the porch at McMurran Hall. Many local performers will strut their stuff throughout the festivities.
Anyone celebrating the start of spring can gather for the May Day parade at 11:30 along Church Street near the Episcopal Church for a march down German Street beginning at noon. Just afterwards, we will wrap the May Pole and continue with live performances on the McMurran lawn. The Green Man is sure to make an appearance. Activities continue all day until 6:00 p.m. and all are free!
As our own May Day special, any available room at the Inn on Friday or Saturday night will be discounted $25. You can’t experienced a May Day celebration like this one anywhere else!
