So it’s the day after Halloween and we’ve started that lull that leads up to Thanksgiving, filled only by football games and decisions about how to cook the turkey this year (brine? herb-rub? deep-fry?). What are you going to do?
It’s a perfect day to head to the Shepherdstown Fire Department for the annual Apple Butter Festival, on Saturday, November 1st at the fire department, located on Route 45 just west of the Inn and Shepherdstown. This is the major fund-raising event for our all-volunteer fire department which runs on its own funding. In addition to flavorful apple butter – made over a kettle right in front of you – there will be arts & crafts and baked goods for sale. Lunch is served starting at 11:30 a.m. You can order apple butter on Saturday (but no earlier) for pickup on Saturday and/or Sunday.
We always try to buy a couple of jars to serve with breakfast at the Inn – last year’s supply went fast, so we are anxious to get some more this year. You should try some, too – get enough to serve at Thanksgiving dinner.
