All the buzz during July in Shepherdstown is about the Contemporary American Theater Festival, which opened last weekend – five plays, all worth talking about. And the return of our favorite CATF actor, Lee Sellars, who stayed with us in March and is performing in Pig Farm and The Overwhelming. As a side note, The Overwhelming also features Chris Boykin, a young actor just graduated from Shepherd University. Take note of this gifted young man – I predict you will see a lot of him in upcoming years!
Not to be outdone by the plays, some shops in Shepherdstown have events during this month, specifically wine tastings. German Street Coffee & Candlery will be holding one on July 19th from noon to 5:00 with Steve Cole of Country Vintner pouring some great summer wines and Deb showing cheeses for pairing. In addition, Gourmet Grapes and Grains, specializing in wines and microbrews, holds a wine tasting every Saturday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Both shops are located on German Street in the downtown area – you can’t miss them!
