I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July yesterday! We had our parade on German Street and then there was a picnic at Morgan’s Grove Park – all fortunately before the rain started to fall. It looks like the fireworks this evening at Antietam may be rained out.

Pictured at the left is my first share of produce from the Jubilee Farm CSA, picked up on Wednesday. We have two heads of lettuce, summer squash and zucchini, chocolate mint, chives, thyme, a cucumber and garlic scapes. We had the squash in a stir-fry last night and I made some chocolate mint simple syrup for the fruit cup for breakfast this morning.

I have done research on garlic scapes and will be taking them to a friend’s for dinner tonight – cut up like green beans and sauteed with a little butter and sea salt. I’m looking forward to trying some new recipes for vegetables that I don’t always experiment with. Anyone have a good recipe for beets?
