Bicycling around Shepherdstown, West Virginia

We’ve had a lot of guests on bicycles this spring – some with bikes on their cars and others who are traveling strictly by bicycle, and even a few combos of bicyclists with SAG support. That means Support and Gear (I love learning new acronyms!), usually one person in a car or van shuttling luggage and gear, and the occasional injured or tired biker.

One recent guest wrote of his visit to Shepherdstown in a recent posting on his blog, bicyclespokesman.com. It’s very easy to get around the area by bicycle, as many of the historic sites are close by. Antietam Battlefield is less than 5 miles away and Harpers Ferry is 14 miles by the C&O Canal Path, which lies about 3/4 of a mile from our front door. Shepherdstown Pedal & Paddle is open on weekends to rent and sell equipment. Of course, you can walk to about a dozen restaurants, the independent movie theater and local live music from the Inn most evenings.

If you are travelling through on the C&O, Shepherdstown makes a nice stopover point between Hancock and Leesburg; if you are a more relaxed biker, there are nice options to explore Harpers Ferry on an overnight stay as well.

Please let us know if you need assistance in planning either a long or short stay with bicycling in mind; we can help with recommendations for other B&Bs along the path or dinner reservations here in Shepherdstown.
