We’ve been closed for the last few weeks, as we often do this time of the year. Sometimes we get to take a vacation but this year it was all about scraping wallpaper and painting. Two of our common area rooms – the upstairs library and the back dining room needed a little work, so we tackled removing the old stuff and patching plaster cracks before repainting in the the Inn’s more traditional cream and sage green palette. We also got some new leather chairs and repurposed some of our smaller oriental rugs to the library (pictured to the right).
No pictures of the dining room yet but we uncovered (after scraping two layers of wallpaper) a note written on the plaster by the original renovators of the Inn in 1985. We’ve left that uncovered with a frame around it. We also plan to add some shelves in the back dining room to display some of our vintage tin collections – we have a lot of tea tins and some other interesting food containers which will look right at home there.
This time of year is slower for us and in Shepherdstown, but that can make for a great relaxing getaway for you.
