The Contemporary American Theater Festival, held annually at Shepherd University every July, is trying something new this year in addition to the lineup of new dramatic works that are always part of our summer. There will be five plays this year, with the addition of a shorter work by Neil LaBute. Also, and more to the point of this post, there will be a sneak preview and benefit for the 2008 season featuring actor LEE SELLARS and guest appearances by local notables including the new president of Shepherd, Suzanne Shipley. No, neither Jim nor I are performing – it is still safe to attend! I think we can safely say that Lee is a favorite among all the talented CATF performers and we are happy to have him back for this preview.
The preview will be on Saturday, March 8 at the Studio Theater in Sara Cree Hall at Shepherd University, preceded by cocktails at 7:00 p.m. with the performance at 8:00. An on-stage party will follow afterwards. Tickets are $50 per person and can be obtained by calling the box office at 800-999-CATF (2283). You can get your tickets for the 2008 season the same way and check the schedule at the website www.catf.org.
We still have rooms available for the weekend of the preview and limited availability during the CATF as well. This year the performances will run from the weekend AFTER the 4th of July through the first weekend in August. As Producing Director Ed Herendeen says, ‘Come to Shepherdstown, WV where the future spends the summer.’ We hope to see you!
